Program

Location

Another year has passed. Time doesn't stand still, and neither does Il Forno Antico! It goes on with the usual enthusiasm, with new partners and new proposals to exceed our friends expectations.

Il Forno Antico is now even more inviting than last year: we have added a beautiful chestnut wood porch onto the pink house, and an automated in 'n out access. We have refurbished the bakery and built a new office. We have also built a children's park, completed the tennis court, and enlarged the animal park. Currently, we are building a conference room.
Ducks and chickens supply an abundance or fresh eggs daily. The goats produce enough milk for everybody.
The foals are now gorgeous horses.
This year's oil is particularly good, the wine is fantastic and the sausage unbeatable. We gave the vegetable garden a boost: it now has zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, leeks, garlic, pepper, and abundant lettuce.
Contributors

We have new important agreements with reporters, guides, and agencies such as:

Consorzio and Cooperativa di Barcaioli (Fishermen Coop) Palinuro.

Mr. Pietro Ricco will be our guide on the paths along the valleys of Lambro and Mingardo. He will guide you to the Parco Marino (Marine Park) of Infreschi and the Grotte di Palinuro. He will be with you for the Lamparate (night fishing) and the tuna fishing expeditions.

Summary of Our Offerings

March, April: sausage making; olive, myrtle, and berry picking. Horseback riding excursions along the Lambro river to watch herons and storks. Marvel at the beautiful Primula Palinuri. Mountain bike excursions among the giants of Cilento.
May, June, July, August: lots of sun and horseback riding, trekking, mountain biking, fishing and scuba diving, lamparate (night fishing), berry and mushroom picking.
September, October: more sun and horseback riding, and mountain bike, trekking, lamparate (night fishing), tuna fishing. Olive, chestnut, mushroom, myrtle, and berry picking.

Horseback Riding

The valley of the Lambro and Mingardo rivers

The mythical Lambro river valley offers enchanting views. They are even more so when the herons and storks return. The Lambro is actually a torrent that starts with aggressive rapids, and becomes majestic and calm at the mouth, with ample inlets.

The Mingardo river originates in the Cervati Mountains. It passes through the well known Gola del Diavolo, a deep canyon just before the mouth. The medieval town of San Severino sits on top of the hills forming the canyon.

For fans and newbies we propose a whole week. For everybody else, a wonderful 3-day weekend.

Bring clothes suitable for horseback riding. Actual horseback riding clothes are not necessary. Bring your camera and/or camcorder. Beginners are welcome.

Medicinal Herbs

They say that a Latin, a Greek, and an Arab founded the Medical School of Salerno. The school was world renowned not only among medical doctors, but the general public as well. Many people from all over wanted to be cured there. To help those who could not go there, they published the medical procedures for them to follow at home.

The cures were based on the many herbs that grow in the area. To this day, they are the basis of extremely popular and effective natural remedies.
They include: arbutus, heather, myrtle, elder, blackberry, laurel, dandelion, broom, hawthorn, rosemary, borage, milk thistle, oaks, alder, olive trees, chestnut tree, carob, eucalyptus, fennel, rue, mallow, sage, lavender, mint, various orchids, garlic, parsley, green and red basil, celery, and many more.

This weekend is dedicated to picking medicinal herbs and getting acquainted with their properties. If you would like a proper course in medicinal herbs and their properties, please contact us.
